Stainless Daytona 12K - Page 3 - WATCH TALK FORUMS - 2010 watches

Default id="post_message_34639">@Paint42: I couldn't tell you since I don't own either.

My assertion is that the interesting part is that there are 2 separate markets; USA+AU+Europe (developed world) and Asia+ME (emerging markets).

In the former, the SS is more coveted since it is extremely rare to be had new from an AD. You can readily walk into an AD and get a gold daytona for ~$25K. People in this market value the prestige of the unobtainable over the allure of gold. Why? I believe this is because historically their market is both economically and politically stable.

In the latter there is far less demand for rare SS daytona since these people would prefer the gold and gem versions. In developing portions of the world there is much more volatility. Your currency's value can evaporate overnight or the government can change hands at any moment and seize your possessions. These people want portable, compact, and liquid forms of wealth. A solid gold watch fits that model very well.
